Back to Hogwarts: The Dementor gets Glittered!!!
Today is my stop on the Back to Hogwarts Blog Tour. No I am unfortunately not going to Hogwarts, this ship has looooong sailed (*pauses for a moment of silence)! However what I am doing is bringing the magic of the Wizarding World to you via the magic of glitter...Yes I said Glitter.
Anyone who has ever met me knows how much I love glitter, I'm practically covered in it. Its an accessory for every event. The amount of times people have stopped to comment "You know you have glitter in your hair" and I replied, Yep I put it there!
So when I was given the challenge to decorate one of the super cool Hero Collector Wizarding World figurines I jumped at the chance, but was unsure how to go about it. Then it hit me...what was I known for GLITTER.
I choose a Dementor, the soul sucking monster guards of Azkaban first seen in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I choose the Dementor for a number of reasons. The first being I loved the design of the model. Each model is beautifully recreated in a 1:16 scale, and is weighted so that you really feel like its a collectable item. The models are available as part of a monthly subscription starting at £2.99 with the utterly gorgeous Dumbledore at his podium (just look at him!),
and then available monthly for £13.00 + P&P. As part of your membership you'll also get a magazine and a number of cool extras including art prints and house badges. The second reason was that a Dementor doesn't initially spring to mind when you think of glitter and I wanted to turn the Dementor around and paint it in a different colour and through that hopefully give it new purpose...so gone is the kiss of death and enter the kiss of life.
It was sooooooooo much fun to glitter up this model, I literally felt like I was in Art Attack. On my right here you can see the lovely before photo
But instead of my writing about, because its literally PVA glue and Glitter, it I thought I would video the process. I'm sorry in advance for the video, I quickly slapped together on my phone (didn;t even have it landscape rooky error), badly edited it on my computer and some how it took two days to render...it was a process but I'm glad I did it and you're welcome!:
Here is my final pride and joy, I really hope you like it!
Check out the other figures in the collection (sadly my glitter Dementor is one of a kind, but maybe I'll take commissions ;) and the subscriptions available to you:
